A WORD FROM FRANK

Frank "A Fred Astaire Student"

Who knows why Perry would ask a student to write a monthly column. Then again, who knows what may appear in future columns. So here goes ─ Why did we decide to take dance lessons?

Probably like many Americans, we blame Dancing with The Stars (DWTS). We watched the first night of season two, and have been tuned in since. With 5 of the 8 members of our dinner group being loyal watchers, DWTS frequently worked into our conversations. Then came a DWTS theme night and the host hired someone to give a group lesson as part of the evening ─ Now we meet Perry and Liz. Two months later I surprised Karen with a 5-lesson starter program for her birthday (oops!), and we've been here ever since.

I'm sure there are both similar and different stories within the studio. Maybe I'll turn into an investigative reporter. A future-column topic perhaps? Who knows!

Ballroom over the years has made changes in people’s lives for the better. Take for example; while I was observing an old photo of myself dancing with my former partner, I noticed the date written on the back read “8 years” old and the date taken. I have been dancing and competing in ballroom for over a decade – and to this day I would rather be dancing then doing anything else in this world! I truly believe this is a path to happiness and should be shared with all. Ballroom has given me and others alike a chance to find simple enjoyment in a crazy world.

Something to say?
